For the book shelves, you could use repurposed items instead of buying new materials. Pick something with curved surface, such as rain gutter. Broken rain gutter fails to hold water, but it works just great to store books.

So apparently you have empty space on the wall. If you are one of those simple-minded people, you will hang another picture, painting or decorative plates. Since you need book nook, why don’t you make one? It requires a little work, but the result is satisfying.
Work to create nook first. The depth of this nook depends solely on the thickness of your wall. Will it be deep enough to fit a novel or journal clipping? Don’t forget to provide upper shelves with wood material. There you go: decorative book nook for your wall.
3. WALL OF BOOK
Nothing is really limited, even in small house. As long as you have empty surface, you could always explore it further. You only need to pick the suitable surface and how to work it out.
Take a look at your plain wall; it is vertically empty. Even though this space is not too wide, you could have decent book nook. How? By installing wooden shelves vertically. Don’t forget to provide stool; you might need it to reach the top shelf.
4. CLOSET NOOK
Some houses are built with several closets. For some reasons, one closet might be underutilized. You barely keep anything there. Instead of letting insects rule the space, why don’t you turn this space into comfortable book nook and private reading corner?
Closet has walls and you should let them be. However, you need to remove the door. Check for damages on the wall and repair it if needed. Then, install wood floating shelves from the middle part to upper part. Use the lower space to create reading spot. Be creative with decoration and paint color.
5. DOOR NOOK
Do you say that you have no space left? One question then: have you checked the area behind your door? It is often forgotten, but you could make better use of it. Install simple wood crate on the space. Make sure it won’t cut the mobility space on the door.
Another tip for you: allow children to spread their favorite blanket near the book nook. Let them have their time reading. Now their favorite corner might be the back door. Don’t be surprised to see piled pillow and dolls when you tidy up. Do you want to make the space more comfortable? Remove the cloth hanger to different place.
6. MINI BOOK LOFT
Why does a space look cramped and stuffed? Probably because its horizontal layer is occupied with many things: sofa, table, lamp, rug, etc. The house master mention how each item has its function and cannot be removed. In this case, what could you do?

To cover the cold concrete wall, install some wood layers. The tone will give signature warmth of a library. For the books, you could choose between wall shelves or under-seat shelves. With wall shelf, you get less space to lay down. However, under-seat shelf might have limited storage. Which one is better?

Just like the book nook behind the door, you need to be careful with the size of your shelves. It should be big enough to accommodate your books without cutting the mobility. If possible, arrange books with hard cover only. Soft cover might bend forward without support.
9. UNDER THE WINDOW
If your windows don’t have adequate space for wall shelves, why don’t you make one under it? This shelf could occupy the space under the window up to the floor. Before you decide to make one, make sure that rain won’t splash into the room. Otherwise, you should find another spot.
The advantage of having under window book nooks is the light. It prevents accumulated humidity. If you are in the mood of reading, simply pull a nearby chair. Natural light will be a good company while enjoying book.
