Choosing wood as your bed frame material is a great choice. It is well known for its durability, versatility, and low maintenance. There are two main categories of wood as a material; hardwood and softwood. Each category has a few types which create a different experience.
Softwood is the type of wood that can be found easily in the shop. Regarding to the structure, it is easier to work with this wood than the hardwood.
The other benefit is it costs less than the hardwood. So, for those who seek for wood material with limited price, softwood can be a good choice. There are three types of softwood that will be explained below; cedar, white pine, and yellow pine.
1. Cedar
Cedar is the first of three types of softwood in the list. It is vary of colors; brown to white. There is one popular type of cedar called eastern red cedar. It is naturally repel any moths.

2. White Pine
This is the type of softwood you can easily find in any shop. It was so popular back then, but it has less points of durability. However, it is easy to carve on it and can be used over time.

3. Yellow Pine
Even though the name is yellow, the color of this softwood is yellow, orange, and tan. It belongs to grainy wood; therefore, it is not the right choice to use it for exposed wood.

Those three are the common types of softwood. Now, we’d like to see about hardwood. As what has been mentioned before, this kind of wood costs more than the softwood.
If you are a kind of person who finds quality as your priority, hardwood is the right choice for you. Most of hardwoods are harder to work with because they are stronger. Some are just simply polished to make it look artistic.
Another thing is hardwood is harder to find in the market since its rarity. Hardwood has more kinds than softwood. There are ten types of hardwood you can find below; birch, walnut, ebony, mahogany, rosewood, maple, cherry, teak, oak, and poplar. Each has different characteristics that may suit to your need.
4. Birch
Now, we enter to the types of hardwood and we begin with birch. It has strong durability, so it can resist to be warped, swollen, and shrinked. For its durability as well, it is not easily used for making details. This light brown to almost white wood mostly used for a simple furniture.

5. Walnut
It comes with dark grey to brown, but mostly dyed darker. It can resist any condition, so it is one of the densest hardwood. It must be polished carefully to make it smooth.

6. Ebony
It will be uneasy to find this kind of wood since it is one of the rarest wood in the market. Naturally, it is brown to black, but people tend to color it into pure black. It is known for its strong and solid structure.

7. Mahogany
This one is also another wood which has great durability. It is easy to carve on it. That’s why, it is mostly known as the main material for cupboard and other furniture. The color is originally brown to red, and gets darker through time.

8. Rosewood
This wood attracts people attention for its deep red color. It represents its exclusive look. The fact is this wood is rare and you need to pay for a high price for rosewood. Even though it is easy to work with this one, it is used mostly as veneer.

9. Maple
Originally from maple tree, this kind of wood comes from light to dark brown. It has strong structure, so it is uneasy to carve on it. However, it can be dyed as personal preference.

10. Cherry
It has the same durability as birch, and known as the finest among other fruitwood. What makes it different than birch is this one is easier to be used for making details. As the color of its fruit, it features red to brown color.

11. Teak
This wood has a good durability that can last for years. It comes with honey brown. Mostly, it is used for outdoor furniture.

12. Oak
This wood has a good flexibility. It resists any kinds of insects and fungal. In addition, it also has grain markings to add the beauty of the wood. People use it mostly as furniture materials.

13. Poplar
This wood has unique color. It is light tan with a few of pink or green streaks on it. This uniqueness make people use it for furniture’s interior. Among the other hardwoods, this wood is considered as one of the weakest.

In addition, there are one more category called composites. It is a natural wood. It is more to a wood product that is created for certain furniture, such as shelf and crafts. There are four types of composites; plywood and particleboard, veneers, and laminates.
14. Plywood
Plywood is the type of wood that comes from another categories called composites. It is made of layers of wood which pressed using glue. It is generally used for making shelf or another craft to beautify the interior.

15. Particleboard
Comes from the same category as plywood, this wood is made of small wood chips and mixture of sawdust which bounded by resin or glue. Mostly, it is found under veneers.

16. Veneers
These are used for highlighting the grain lines of wood in a certain furniture. It is made of wood that are cut into thin slices and glued to another wood or plywood.

17. Laminates
Contrary to veneers, it is glued over base materials such as fiber board or particleboard. It is mainly used for kids’ furniture because it has many colors and it is easy to be cleaned.

Generally, there are two types of wood; softwood and hardwood. In addition, there are also composites. Different types of wood will create a different atmosphere to your bedroom. Therefore, consider about it carefully before installing the wood into your bedroom.
