People say that bedroom is the real private corner in a house. Thus, many of them are devoting times and effort to create perfect ambience. It includes plenty details regarding each furniture; the color, the materials, etc. Especially for bed headboard, you might want to try these pretty DIY designs.
1. RECLAIMED WOOD HEADBOARD
You don’t need newly cut wood to bring a glow. Reclaimed wood will do the trick as long as you know how to do it right. First, you need to find a pattern for the headboard. Pay attention to the bed size as well. King and queen size will require different width and length.
Then, prepare also the materials. Some basic ones are nails, wood glue, wood filler and sandpaper. It is better to prepare two size of nails instead of only one. Support your project with general crafting tools such as pencil, circular saw, safety glass, speed square, brad nailer and tape measure.
Now you are ready to build the headboard. Start with the frame first. Make sure to prepare enough cut for each size. After that, set the frame. You will need two pieces of board, one is smaller. Keep them in place by fastening. Bring the panel pieces and glue the back legs.
Continue with the trim pieces. You will need nail and hammer. Next, add top headboard. You are almost finished. It is time to cover all nail holes with wood fillers. Let it dry before applying sand paper.
2. CUSTOMIZED HEADBOARD
Do you want something especially made for you? This is the answer. Using plank wood as the main material, you will be surprised to see the end product. Keep in mind that the project will require table saw, brush drill, air compressors, satin and polycrilic finish.
When you are ready to work, grab the drill first. Set up the coarse brush. Turn on the machine and bring it closer to the wood surface. It is important to go with wood grains instead of going against them. Stay longer in the corner and center of the wood.
Next, apply the stain on the plank wood. You might use any paint brush. Allow it to dry completely before moving to the next step. Bring the sandpaper and apply it on the wood. No need to press to hard, just enough strength to show the grain. After you are done, lock the look with finishing spray.
Mark the height and width of your customized headboard. Mark each corner clearly. Stack the wood from the bottom and nail it. To help you in the nailing process, it would be better to predrill the wood. Repeat the process until you reach the mark.
3. BARN STYLE
What is one signature look from a barn? It is no other than the cross door. Build from solid wood, this character sets the whole atmosphere. Is it too much if you want this barn style door in your room? No, it isn’t. You only need to work out a little bit on the project.
To create this dream headboard, you don’t need fancy studio. As long as you have electric saw, pocket holes machine, nail and wood glue, this project could run smoothly. Go to the bedroom and measure the headboard size. This instruction fits for single bed only.
Cut the woods first. You will need two pieces of 53 inches long cuts for end post and fourteen pieces of 30.25 inches long cuts for the board. Drill two 1 ¼ holes near the top and bottom of each board cuts. For the trim, top and bottom trim will need 49.5 inches long cuts.
As for the barn door trim, the pieces will be 30.25 for the frame and 35.25 for the diagonal line. Don’t forget to give 31.6 degree cut for the diagonal ones. Bring them together using nails and wood glue. To finish, paint with wood stain.
4. FRESH PLANK HEADBOARD
Some of you might have seen one model of extended headboard. Instead of measured as regular headboard, this item goes up and touches the ceiling. Surprisingly, it doesn’t look too much. In fact, this plank headboard will give fresh look to your bedroom.
Be prepared to make a mess in the bedroom. Since the board will be longer than usual, working directly on the spot is much better. Your first job is building a wall stud. Its width is two meters or more, depending on your bed size. Drill the top and bottom part first. For vertical support, you need at least five long cuts.
Bring the plank pieces to the bedroom. If you prefer certain hue, then paint it before hand and apply the finishing layer as well. Work from the bottom up to the ceiling. You could also start working approximately 10 inches from the bottom, as this part is covered by bed.
Make sure the planks are attached properly on the stud. If needed, you may cut the long planks into shorter pieces. As for the color arrangement, you can be as creative as you can.
5. HEADBOARD WITH STORAGE
Not all people love headboard as decoration only. They appreciate headboard design with additional storage. Why don’t you make one? It is simpler than most projects. Bring wood sheet of your choice and start working on the pattern. This pattern could be found in many sites.
Draw the legs, top and middle shelves first. These three have similar measurement; 65.25 inches and 7.25 inches. Move to the lower rail after that. Its width is similar to top shelf but the length is only 3.5 inches. Don’t forget to predrill some holes on the required spots.
Build these cuts to a frame. Fasten the screw on the predrilled holes. Now work on the top and bottom panel. It is suggested to use plywood. The top needs 65.25 x 18 inches, while the bottom calls for 65.25 x 28 inches. Install them and your storage headboard is almost ready to use. Do final touch up, sanding and painting. Let it dry before installing the bed.
